Discipline - Timescales

The investigation must be carried out within 15 days (3 weeks) of the date of the letter to the employee notifying them of the decision to instigate an investigation under the Disciplinary Procedure.

However, in exceptional circumstances, due to the complexities of the case it may not be possible to complete the investigation within 15 days.  If additional time is required to conduct an investigation because e.g. something new comes to light, there is a reasonable agreement in principle, by all parties, to extend the timescales.  The Investigation Officer must write to the employee before the deadline, stating the reasons for the delay and informing the employee of the expected new timescales and seek their agreement.
